Walking in a Wedding Wonderland: Kristen + Mike
I knew Kristen and Mike were going to be just the perfect way to start off 2017's wedding season from our first Skype meeting. From their cat who made a quick appearance to say hi, to the way we were able to just joke and have fun. I did what I always do afterwards -- I added them both as Facebook friends so that we could get to know each other a little better before their wedding and my feed was instantaneously full of fun nerd stuff they posted to each other's walls, like comics, TV and movie memes, and a shared love for Star Wars, which would turn out to be a big part of their special day.
Ever been ghosted? Kristen and Mike's story starts with Mike ghosting his future wife not once, but twice before their relationship even began. They met online in 2014 but he seemingly turned out to be just another fish in the sea of plenty, vanishing before her eyes. He made his way back though and they started talking, at which point he disappeared again. Third time must have been a charm though as they finally set up a time to meet, after which, Kristen says she proclaimed to her mother that she just had her last first date. (Cue the AWWWWWWWWs!)
The rest, as they say, is history.
Their wedding day was perfect for January; chilly but not too cold, and a little snow shower right after their ceremony made for some great portrait shots outside. The cherry on top of all the flurries and awesome geek culture? Their wedding cake was how they decided to do the gender reveal for their little one due later this year. And aside from Kristen's sister, and a few members of the venue, nobody, NOT EVEN THEY knew what the gender was. It was one of the happiest moments I've ever photographed when their friends and family all celebrated the baby boy that'd be joining us in just a few months.
Kristen and Mike - You two were undoubtedly made for each other. I can't even begin to describe to you what an absolute honor capturing your wedding day was. From the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker and Gryffindor socks, to the stormtrooper dance your family put on for you, to the cake, to the snow, and oh my god I could go on and on. I thank you a million times for being such an amazing couple to work with and wish you a lifetime of happiness!
